What is copyright?
Copyright is a legal right that protects original creative works and gives their creators control over how those works are used. It helps artists, writers, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, designers, and other creators protect their intellectual and artistic creations from unauthorized copying, reproduction, distribution, or commercial use.
For visual artists, copyright applies to original paintings, drawings, illustrations, sculptures, photographs, digital art, murals, and other forms of artistic expression. The moment an original artwork is created, copyright automatically belongs to the artist. It gives the creator the exclusive right to reproduce, display, publish, license, sell, or authorize others to use the work.
Copyright is not just a legal protection. It is a recognition of an artist's creativity, effort, and ownership. It helps ensure that creators receive proper credit, recognition, and fair compensation for their work while preventing misuse and unauthorized exploitation.
