Artist Statement

Ramchandra S Kharatmal’s work is rooted in the philosophy that painting is an emotional and spiritual conversation—a feeling that transcends mere technical skill. He believes that while technical mastery (skill) offers refinement, the pursuit of innovation is essential for true artistic creation and development. His creative approach is driven by the internal content of the subject rather than adherence to a single, prescribed style. His thematic explorations are organized into several distinct series, reflecting his versatile approach:

  1. Godhdi (Quilt): Explores themes stemming from personal experience, metaphorically woven together like the traditional, patchwork Godhdi blanket.
  2. Samwad (Dialogue): A visual interpretation of sound, capturing the spontaneous imagery evoked by musical instruments.
  3. Figurative/Beauty: A significant body of work focusing on the feminine form and the Sringar Rasa (the aesthetic of love and attraction). This series is deeply influenced by classical Indian sculpture and painting (Ajanta, Khajuraho) and contemporary regional culture, celebrating the complexity and enduring allure of women's beauty.

Kharatmal consistently strives for the powerful, immediate visual experience that connects the artist and the viewer. His practice stands firmly at the nexus where “tangible and intangible threads converge on the horizon,” seeking spiritual satisfaction and timeless relevance in every creation.
